Race Wrap Up

A week plus later I sit in marvel at how the month of March unfolded for me personally and for the numerous people that create Chuckanut.

Race directing for 16 years now, I know that something odd will happen each year. This year I tried to throw the odd-ball item at the race by signing up for my own competition - running 100 miles, in China on March 9 at the highly competitive Gaoligong by UTMB event. More often then not runners haven't a clue of the craziness that RDs manage in the weeks, days and hours leading up to the race. One year race HQ flooded at 9pm Friday night before the race. Another I blew up my Dad's truck delivering water. We've had major windstorms blocking the trails with countless trees. Landslides. And this year we even had an unfortunate plane crash near our Aid Station 3 location. We always work with the various entities that support the race and the community time and time again rallies in ways I could never imagine possible to pull off another awesome Chuckanut 50k.

This year was no different.

Having what felt like half a brain after running my tail off in China, I spent most of the day in awe of how our system flows and works. How our community steps in and steps up to meet any ask and need of the race to ensure that the event is an awesome experience for everyone.

I am so thankful for the teamwork I have with Kevin and Tyler. It was at their insistence that I tackle the China race, ensuring me that we would all be ready come Chuckanut race day, no matter what state I was in. We bumped our planning schedule up by a month and nearly everyone met our new deadline requests for permits, Sponsor & Supporter product shipments and correspondence.

It was incredible to be a part of once again. Thank you to the Bellingham Community, the Ultrarunning Community and the close support of dear friends and family that keep this event such a gem year after year.

Top 20 Times are posted.

TRAIL CONDITIONS, WEATHER FORECAST & CREW INSTRUCTIONS

TRAIL CONDITIONS

With one day to go to our 26th running, the trails are shaping up to be in great condition! The trail condition varies from good to muddy, and the route is now totally clear of snow. Our fearless founder Doug McKeever spent Thursday marking and clearing the upper loop with the classic Doug-style race signs.

WEATHER FORECAST

We are expecting possible wet weather conditions all day Saturday (very PNW), so be sure to prepare and dress adequately. Each runner is able to leave one bag with dry clothes and other post-race necessities (a towel would be nice!) properly labeled with a bib number at the finish line. Note that we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items (this has never happened, but we have to say it anyway!).

POST RACE

There will be a warm shelter, changing rooms and open-sided tents in Fairhaven Park for runners to rest, clean up/change, relax, eat, drink and socialize after finishing the race. Please stay for the many post-race festivities and Awards Ceremony beginning at 2:30pm - details on the activities and celebrations are outlined on our Race Weekend Details page.

CREW DIRECTIONS

Please see the link to our Crew Directions under the RACE INFORMATION menu tab for information about race day crewing. We welcome crews at Aid Stations #1  & #5, both hosted in the Lost Lake Parking Lot. You will need your Discover Pass and note that parking is LIMITED. You can park at Larrabee State Park and carefully cross Chuckanut Drive to meet up with the trail.

See you soon!

Eye on the Prize

We feel spoiled in how many amazing goods we have to share with our runners and volunteers this weekend! The Sponsors and Supporters have outdone themselves with gear and there are many representatives that will be onsite race weekend to interact with. Check out our Awards page!

Masters, open contenders (in addition to the Sponsor supported prize purse) and age groupers will run for these beautiful mugs, handcrafted by Todd of Millbrooks Clayworks and dear friend to the Chuckanut 50k. This is Todd's 5th year creating these awards for our top finishers and we love sharing his work with our race family.

Race Details: Finish Line Drop Bags

On your race bib there is a coordinating numbered tag for you to attach to your drop bag. We will have an empty Uhaul truck to keep your drop bags dry and volunteers to organize them for easy retrieval after the race.

Because of the limited space (our effort to keep your finish clothing dry) please keep your bag to a reasonable size and under 10lbs. We also ask that you omit any liquids. Thank you for your help on this new program.

Bibs & Shirts

Race bibs, bundled with Bibboards and shirts (if you ordered one) will be available all week for pick up at Fairhaven Runners. Tyler will drop them off Sunday March 11, morning at 11am. If you see how cool the shirts are this year and decide you want one we have a few extra that will be available for sale Friday night and Saturday morning.

Be sure to check the RACE WEEKEND DETAILS for all your planning, parking and race prep needs.

The LineUp: Finish Line Food Trucks

For the 25th Anniversary last year we tried something new. Three local food trucks served our runners and volunteers a post run meal. We loved it and have a great line up for this year's event!

Each bib number has a $5 voucher. Don't lose it!

That is your key to your post run meal at one of these awesome trucks.

We are lucky to have Goat Mountain Pizza bring out their pizza cart to the race finish line again this year. AND just like last year, they will also meet us at Wander for the post party, and new this year, they will be joined at Wander (not the finish line) by their taco truck, Kid Sister. You can check them out at goatmountainpizza.com, or go visit them at their location, 211 West Holly Street!

New for our finish line food, JT's Smokin BBQ will be joining us. The race directors tried them out at one of our planning meetings, and we are super excited to be able to have them join us on race day. If you can't wait until March 17th, you can see where to find them at jtsmokinbbq.com. Yum!

Joining us for the second year in a row, Street Dogz will meet everyone at the finish line. If you missed him last year be sure to grab a dog this year.
