Keep Trails Clean: Pact Sponsorship

Trail runners hold a huge responsibility to manage our human waste while training and also when racing. There is never an okay time to not dig a hole in the Chuckanuts. The soft soil makes it easy. Follow LNT (notes below).

On race day we will have porta-potties delivered to the start finish area for Saturday morning. There is also a porta-potty being delivered to the Shuttle Pick Up area at WWU. There will be porta-potties delivered to aid station #1 (~ mile 6) and there is a pit toilet at the top of Cleator Rd at Cypress overlook (~mile 21). Please do your best to plan your bathroom needs.

If you find yourself between stops you must follow Leave No Trace Principles. Linking to Principle #3 here. Plan ahead to carry what you might need, including a baggie to carry out any products you use.

  • Move yourself 10’ off the trail and not near a water source.

  • Dig a hole 6-8” deep. Luckily we have soft dirt!

  • Carry out your paper/wipes if you use.

  • Cover your waste.

To level up your trail waste experience we are excited that Pact Outdoors is bringing their innovation, expertise and easy messaging to the human waste conversation. Specifically this Ultra-Lite Bathroom Kit improves the whole process. Everything you need fits into the handle of this mini shovel. Add water to the biodegradable wipes. Add mycelium tab(s) to the hole you dig in the ground, and you can feel much better about the whole experience. I highly advise you get one sooner than later, keep it in your running pack and gain experience to dial in efficiency, for those on trail emergencies.
