Vaccination Verification - Please Upload
As a participant in the Chuckanut 50k, you are required to provide proof of your Covid-19 Vaccination status. We need this proof uploaded before packet pick up on March 18.
When we opened registration December 3rd, we made this a requirement to register based on the circumstances at that time. Please see the CDC website for what is considered fully vaccinated. We will also accept any vaccines that are accepted for travel in Canada that can be found here.
Here is a list of acceptable Vaccine Brands :
AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222)
Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C)
Janssen/Johnson & Johnson
Moderna (mRNA-1273)
Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
Sinopharm BIBP (BBIBP-CorV)
Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)
You must have received the last dose of these before March 5th to be eligible to race.
If you live in Washington, you can access your official records online here. Other states and countries likely have similar resources available.
Please follow this link to your Pacific MultiSports Dashboard then click the 'Vaccination Upload' link next to your Chuckanut 50K registration.
Finally, while it is not required to race, based on recommendations from the CDC and the Washington State department of Health, we recommend all racers get their booster shot for covid-19. You can find more information here.
Thank you for your understanding and working with us as we create a system to put on the in-person event working with our community.
January Virtual Segment Winners!
January Virtual Segment Leaderboard is LIVE!
Thank you to everyone that added the Virtual events to their 2022 registration and for posting your results.
A little background: For our 2021 fully Virtual event (we were unable to host in-person due to COVID) we broke the standard 50k course in to segments running aid station to aid station. It turned into such a great way to prep for the full 50k that we kept the January and February virtual segments as extra incentive and motivation to train for the Chuckanut 50k. Runners had the option to add on the Virtual Segments to their registration.
And the January Winners are!!
Speediest Male and Female Entrants

Wear Your Shirt to celebrate!
I’ve been thinking on how to celebrate 20 years of race directing. There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing Chuckanut 50k race shirts on people. I awkwardly call them out pretty much where ever I see them. On instagram posts, along the trails or even through town if I happen to see our logo popping up. So my thought is to have as many runners as are willing to race in a previous Chuckanut 50k race shirt on race day this year. It seems like a simple ask, but also as a coach I know how important it is to train in the gear you are going to race in and know how it is going to perform. So be sure to do some training runs in your race shirts and decide which one to wear come March 19.
If you are in need of a previous Chuckanut 50k race shirt I have some in my office and would love to have them on people rather than in boxes. I’ll post sizes and prices below and you can email me to have one shipped or you can pick up at Prime Sports Institute on State Street in Bellingham.
For those of you curious on dates: Doug McKeever and Richard West founded the race in 1993. They directed through 2002, 10 years. I took over in 2003. I am counting race directing in 2020 because we had done everything and had to cancel 11 days out and then still had a ton of follow up with refunds. I’m also counting RD’ing in 2021 as a virtual year. Now to count the race years. This will the 28th running of the Chuckanut 50k because we were not in-person 2020 or 2021. Does this math work for everyone else?
Thank you for helping me celebrate this 2 decade commitment!
And looking ahead to at least a few more years…
2022 here we come! Registration Filled and Waitlist is OPEN!
December started off with the awesome feeling of opening Chuckanut 50k registration. After 2 years of not being able to host the in-person event (canceled in 2020 just 10 days prior due to covid shutting things down, and our hosting the virtual run in 2021) we are very excited to bring people back together!! And will in the safest way possible. It seems our runners are just as excited as the race filled in about 36 hours. THANK YOU for that support! It feels like the best day of the month to this race director (Krissy is writing and yes, I’m putting this above other holidays in December.)
The 2022 event will take place on March 19. We are thick in the permitting process and pending trail conditions we will keep the most current route starting and finishing from Fairhaven Park. We are thankful to work with the City of Bellingham, Whatcom County Parks & Recreation, Bellingham Parks & Recreation, Larrabee State Park and USAT&F for our very important permitting and insurance needs.
To fulfill our permits we must create and adhere to a Health and Safety Plan. We are working with the Washington State Health Department to stay as current as possible. All runners, volunteers and attendees must follow these guidelines. At the time of registration we had to require vaccination of all of our runners. We are working with Pacific Multisports (our awesome registration team!) to create an online verification so we can have all runners verified before packet pick up. Be on the look out for information on how to submit your proof around February 1.
Volunteer Registration is now open. It seems this is a highly sought after roll as we filled a third of the spots in the first day of making the link live. Thank you for that support! Our sponsors take great care of the event and we in turn pass the awesome goodies on to our volunteers and runners. Our volunteers will also have to provide proof of vaccination.
For those of you completing the virtual segments in January and February, (turns out this is an excellent way to motivate and build your miles!) instructions on how to upload your results will be in your inboxes by the end of this weekend. Also, watch for shout outs on our social media channels for sponsor prizes!
We wish you the best in your Chuckanut training and look forward to seeing you in March!
19 time finisher- Morris Arthur
Morris Arthur first ran the Chuckanut 50k in 2002. That also happens to be the last time current race director Krissy Moehl ran the event. So in tandem Morris has continued running the Chuckanut 50k race as Krissy continues to RD. They can look to each other to know how many times “we’ve been doing this”. Now with the tricky year that was 2020 the count isn’t as easy.
To ensure his streak, less the hiccup of 2020, Morris started the 2021 Chuckanut 50k around 5pm on Friday 3/19 and finished around 2am 3/20 deeming himself the first finisher on what would have been race day. (We always run the Chuckanut 50k on the third Saturday of March.) We love that he printed the Virtual Race Bib and got to wander about the Chuckanuts through the night. “It was a different experience not having others out there, but there really wouldn’t have been others out there being virtual” Morris told Krissy in Fairhaven Park on Saturday. Morris had ridden his bike the couple of blocks from his home to pick up his race packet and share his 2021 finish.
“I have seen Morris start and finish in an arm sling, so I am not surprised by his all night adventure to get it done. I just love that the connection to this race runs so deep for runners.”
Thank you to all of the runners that join the Chuckanut 50k year after year! And to the many that choose us as their first ultra. The running and Bellingham communities support this event in such strong ways, through volunteering, donating to our chosen organizations, running the race and cheering from the beer garden. We can’t show enough gratitude, but we can keep putting together a great reason to keep coming back!
2021 Awards & Thank Yous
Thank you for your support this year and to those of you that joined us Sunday, thank you for sharing your stories at the virtual post-race party. It was wonderful to hear your counts and see so many faces after our first all virtual race. We can not wait to be with you all (hopefully) in-person next year.
Remember!: Your registration in 2021 means priority registration in 2022!
Watch your email early December for a link to early registration and your chance to beat the rush and secure your spot.
Prizes!
We handed out a lot of prizes on Sunday; for speedsters, for climbers, for sharing, and for being with us. Prize winners are listed at the bottom of this post.
We need to put together these prize packages from our sponsors, and we are aiming to get those out to those that won them by April 16th (if not sooner). We will communicate with all of the prize winners to figure out if you can pick up your goods from Prime Sports Institute or if you would like us to mail them.
Doug
We are SO thankful that race founder Doug McKeever continues adding his energy to the Chuckanut 50k. For those that ran the course 3/13 and 3/20 Doug set up signs and manned the 3.5 aid station for runners and hikers as they came off of the ridge. He also shared stories on our Sunday Virtual Post Party. What I did not know when I (Krissy) took over the race in 2003 was the life long friend I would gain in this local legend.
Photos
Fellow Virtual runner, local photographer, and phenomenal bread baker, Ben Groenhout created an awesome album of photos of local racers that ran the course on 3/20. He has given us the thumbs up to share away. If you download any of these photos please give him photo credit. (Instagram handle: @ben_groenhoet )
