The Chuckanut 50k is a lollipop course. The first and last 10k repeat on the interurban trail, smooth running to start and finish you off. The middle 30k is what this race is known for as you get to climb (5000ft), traverse and descend the beautiful Chuckanut Mountain Ridge. This is the 22nd running of this classic event. Race weekend is typically the 3rd weekend in March, but due to RD scheduling, the 2014 event will be the last weekend. The Gorges Waterfall 50k will be the next day... back to back 50ks in Washington?? Sounds like a fun weekend!
Our History
The Chuckanut 50k has been around for 21 years. The 2014 edition will be our 22nd running. Doug McKeever and Richard West started this race in 1993 and led the charge for 10 years. In 2000 I participated in the Chuckanut 50k as my first ultra and when Doug and Richard “retired” in 2002 I decided to ensure that the Chuckanut 50k would continue. There is something about that first ultra that holds a special place in one’s heart. In 2010 I formed Runner Girl Races, LLC and am coordinating the race under this business. I could not pull together the many facets of this event without the many amazing hours of help and support by many committed volunteers year after year. Special Thanks To Peggy & Dennis Moehl (aka Ma & Pa Moehl), Doug McKeever and Steve Loitz for their support every year since 2003. To Ellen Parker for her major contribution the last three years as co-RD. To Heather Anderson for jumping in as co-RD in 2013.
